Tweetylisis: Analyzing human thought

Twitter is a way for people to jot down whatever they’re feeling. “I’m feeling sad” or “Oh boy Sachin was great during that double century”.

The fact that its 140 characters or less makes it more probable that people will tweet whats going on their minds right at this instant. And you can use your mobile to tweet as well.

Do you see an opportunity there? Psychologists and related professionals can use these tweets, and actually make some sense out of it! This would be the ideal sample space: the entire world… and all thoughts are independent… uninfluenced by other tweeters… and you can get thousands of tweets every minute.

Maybe Twitter could be a way to comprehend how thoughts work out in the human brain, and how they relate to event that occur in the real world.

Twitter itself has an analysis block. And they keep finding some really interesting patterns in the tweets they monitor. The NFL superbowl was analysed by them and here were the results:

You can see how each event corresponds to a spike or a valley. You can read the post on twitter’s blog for more analysis on this graph!

Oh, and you can actually use tweets in your projects/assignments… and mention them as quotes ;)
