Umm you’re a little off the mark there. Economists don’t do this. HR professionals do. The closest you get is Behavioural Economists using customized incentives in policy to exploit people’s predictable irrationality – you can check out TED talks by Dan Ariely for that.

Certain things will never change. The proportion of people doing out of the box things which take humanity forward will always be small. In the earlier days it was astronomy, science philosophy only today it encompasses people using tools and knowledge on the net sitting in the comfort of their homes too.

Have a look at the second video. It gives an example about open source projects. The kind of people I’m talking about are increasing in number. But still, they are a minority considering the six billion population. And this makes it even more of a job for managers to help them go beyond mechanical tasks, and put them in an environment that will boost their internal drive to do different things.

The kind you talk of are a minority – einstein said it too ‘imagination is more important than knowledge’. He also talks of an insignificant minority of humans being responsible for a significant majority of human progress. On a higher level of abstraction, your idea was described by einstein as human progress due to objective pursuits of art and science… also these people seek something beyond earning their daily bread. They also seek good company and intellectual stimulation

Hi There…went through your site, It struck me as strange to see someone pursuing BE, being so interested in Special effects and graphics.

Nice Video…Its something I would love to do in the future too. Currently am pursuing a course in VFX and MAYA.
